This article, "Rockefeller Will Wear Findlay Shoes," appeared in the Findlay Morning Republican newspaper after Findlay shoe manufacturer A. R. Cooper took an order for a pair of electric shoes from Frank Rockefeller, the brother of oil magnate John D. Rockefeller. Albert R. Cooper (1863-1937) invented the electric shoe in 1905 to ease the pain of rheumatism. The electric shoe sold very well; at one point Cooper reportedly had to turn down orders because he could not make enough shoes. Cooper ran a successful shoe manufacturing and repair business in Findlay from 1896 to his death in 1937. |
