HIGH TOWER

1109 S Main St. the William Luther Carlin House

1109 South Main Street, Findlay, Ohio, United States, 45840

The William Luther Carlin House was built by William L. Carlin, grandson of Squire Carlin who helped to establish the town in the early 1820s. William L. Carlin was Mayor of Findlay in 1886, and later became a state senator from 1888 to 1890. The house is built in the Victorian Gothic style and is filled with decorative motifs and includes a massive tower, intricate brick patterns and elaborate woodwork. It is a single family residence extending 6,694 square feet with 22 rooms and 11 fireplaces with 3-brick-thick walls. In 1894, Seabury Newton Emery Priddy bought the Carlin house for $11,000. After he died in 1912, his wife, Elizabeth, sold the house to William and Nelle Brown for $12,000. They extensively remodeled and redecorated the house. In 1920, H. Fort and Sara Mather Flowers purchased the house and named it “High Tower.”
